Switching from an iPhone
Yet another step we're not used to with iPhone. It has been brought to my attention by several people that there is an extra step involved when someone switches from an iPhone to any other type of phone. When someone has had an apple ID attached to their phone number, they will cease to receive text messages to that number until they delete that number from their apple ID. The reason for this is because iMessage intercepts all text messages sent to that number and if the customer is not using an apple product, they have no way of receiving them. I also heard about a situation today where an iPhone user's friend also used an iPhone. In the friends contacts, the user was designated as an iMessage contact. When the user switched to an Android, the messages she sent to her friend where not received because the friend also had to go into her contacts and change that information. What a mess!!!
I will try to get a detailed instructional on how to remove a ctn from an apple ID yet this week, but for now, understand this is an issue and we will continue to see it for any customer switching from an iPhone.

I do have confirmation from a couple of data specialists with US Celluar that this is an issue. A customer must unlink their phone number from their Apple ID. The process can be done on the iPhone by doing the following:
Unlink a phone number
To remove a phone number from an Apple ID, sign out of FaceTime and Messages on your iPhone:
- Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
- Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
This should remove your phone number from other devices using the same Apple ID with FaceTime and Messages. If the phone number is still available on other devices after you sign out of FaceTime and iMessage on the iPhone, you may need to sign out of iMessage and FaceTime on all your devices, then sign in to FaceTime and Messages again on devices you want to use.
Note: If you no longer have access to the iPhone that is using the number you want to remove, reset your Apple ID password.
The customer must the tell their iPhone friends that they are no longer using an iPhone and their friends need to do the following:
Settings/Messages/Click on the box for Send as SMS
This will send the message as an SMS to the Android device.
